Introduction
How do we effect the animal
kingdom around us? Are we responsible for their quality of life and
if so How? What can we do to help the animal kingdom? What
does it mean when a specific animal is classified as extinct, endangered
or rare? Why should we care if animals are endangered or rare?
In this web quest you will pretend that you are a reporter for the discovery
channel. You will collect information and research animals from different
continents. You will use the information that you have collected to create
a commercial convincing people to protect our animal kingdom.
The
Task
You and your partner will
research and collect information on extinct, endangered and rare animals
within a continent. In your search you will try to discover why certain
animals are endangered or rare. You will look for things that can
be done done to help these endangered and rare animals. You
will keep a journal of the information you have collected during your search.
You will use this information to create a commercial using power point.
The
Process
1. The class will
be put into 8 different groups, one for each of the eight continents.
2. Each group will
be responsible for finding information on endangered, rare and extinct
animals within that continent.
3. All of the groups
will search the internet using the animal links
page of this web quest. In your search you will look for information
on how the animals of that continent became endangered, rare or extinct.
4. You will record your
information into a journal.
5. After you have
collected the information on endangered, rare and extinct animals you will
use it to create a commercial. Your commercial should include, why
the animal has been classified as endangered, rare or extinct, and what
can be done to help protect the animal.
6. You will create
and present your commercial on power point.
Evaluation
You will be evaluated on
the following:
Your
level of cooperation and participation in this project.
The
quality of information gathered for your commercial.
The
neatness and completeness of your journal entries.
Spelling
and complete sentences within your information.
The
information and presentation of your commercial.
The
creativity of your commercial.
Conclusion
I hope that you have enjoyed
your study of endangered animals on this web quest. I also hope that
you will continue to protect the animals of this world.
